On March 6, 2020 Chatham County GA officials decided to add another law that increases tax revenue for the county. Previously, if you owned a short-term vacation rental on sites like Airbnb and VRBO, you were not required to obtain a license if you operated in the unincorporated areas of Chatham County GA.
Well, with the new law that goes into effect July 1, 2020, those owners would now be required to obtain the license. Right now the initial fee to apply for the short-term rental license will cost you $250.
In addition to paying the $250 license fee, Airbnb and Vrbo owners are also now required to pay related hotel/motel taxes and also further ensure that their rental property does not disturb surrounding neighbors by following the county’s guidelines.
